How to Fix Encryption Oracle remediation (CredSSP update installed)

This guide outlines steps to fix the “Encryption Oracle Remediation” error which blocks insecure Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) connections due to mismatched security settings related to CredSSP updates on Windows computers. An ‘authentication error’ often arises in RDP connections due to mismatched CredSSP updates, highlighting the critical role of the ‘credential security support provider’ in this context.

The error often occurs when a client with a CredSSP update attempts to connect via RDP to a server lacking the same update. The connection is prevented by the Encryption Oracle Remediation policy, which dictates the security level of RDP sessions. This mismatch can lead to vulnerabilities, including the potential for ‘remote code execution’, which poses significant security risks.

Note: Every step is done on the local computer.

Step 1: Open the Run Command

  • Press the Start button, type run, and press Enter.

Step 2: Access Local Group Policy Editor

  • Type gpedit.msc in the run dialog box and press Enter.
  • Navigate to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Credentials Delegation.

Step 3: Modify the Encryption Oracle Remediation Policy

  • Double-click on Encryption Oracle Remediation policy.
  • Set the policy to Enabled. This action is directly addressing the ‘credssp encryption oracle remediation’ issue, ensuring secure remote desktop connections.
  • Set Protection Level to Vulnerable. This setting is crucial as it helps prevent the ‘error message’ related to authentication failures from appearing.
  • Click Apply to save the changes. It’s important to correctly configure these settings, as the ‘error occurs’ when policy settings are not properly adjusted, affecting RDP connections.

Step 4: Update Group Policy Settings

  • Type CMD in the Windows search bar, right-click to run as administrator.
  • Enter gpupdate and press Enter to update the policy settings.
  • Reboot your computer to apply all changes.

Alternative Method for Windows 10 Home Users

Windows 10 Home does not include the Local Group Policy Editor. Use the registry method instead:

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  • Execute the following command:
REG ADD HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\CredSSP\Parameters /v AllowEncryptionOracle /t REG_DWORD /d 2

  • Reboot your computer to apply all changes.
